Special Exhibition celebrating the 65th birthday of South Tyrolean artist and mountaineer Ernst Müller.

Ernst Müller spent his childhood on farms in the South Tyrolean mountains. He developed his own style to express and depict his experiences. Over the last years, the artist has created several large-scale stage sets and murals, and has worked on art projects with students, both in- and outdoors.

In 1990, Müller was included in the art book “Arte italiana contemporanea” (“Contemporary Italian Art”). In 2004, he was listed for the second time in “Catalogo internazionale dell’arte contemporanea” (“International catalogue of Contemporary Art”).

Ernst Müller ‘s art isn’t quaint landscape painting, but neither is it an abstraction of nature. His expressive oil paintings sit somewhere in between, always carrying a sense of poetry, a passion for the originally simple. That is his style. Born in Val Venosta/Vinschgau, Müller has always remained attached to his origins.

Müller and his ten siblings were sent to work at mountain farms during the summers. In these long summer months, Müller probably experienced homesickness for the first time, a homesickness visible in his paintings. It is this strong emotion that captures the viewer, and is testimony that the artist paints with his soul.

Müller developed his style on his own, working late into the nights, unable to rest. A number of stage sets and paintings resulted from this creative power. Today, the artist seeks to further develop his art, a development visible in his choice of new, colourful motives. Müller captures a beam of light reflected on the water. He immerses the Vinschger Sonnenberg in colours. Daring, perhaps, but Müller has never been a man of understatement. All his motives abound with strength and power and completely absorb the viewer’s gaze.
