Recchia Iva
Biography
Born in Verona in 1972, she attended the artistic high school (liceo artistico) in her hometown and the Academy of Fine Arts (from 1990 to 1992 in Venice and from 1992 to 1994 in Verona), majoring in painting. She graduated with a thesis titled “Ambiguity in Art”, supervised by Professor Roberto Sanesi.
Following her studies, she worked as an assistant to the painter Vincenzo Balsamo (1996–2003) and the sculptors Miguel Berrocal (1998) and Sergio Capellini (2001).
In addition to her work as a painter, she has been teaching a life drawing course at the P. Brenzoni Art Institute (Sant’Ambrogio di Verona) since 2005. She also served as a teaching assistant at the Cignaroli Academy of Fine Arts in Verona (Painting and Painting Techniques, under Professor Davide Antolini, 2009–2010).
In 2017, she published “FATTO AD ARTE” (Made to Art), a creative workshop manual published by Edizioni Cervino.
Philosophy
The human world is an immense and falsely circumscribed field of action. Within it converge many aspects to which Nature itself, in its entirety and complexity, is subject. To confront it is an attempt to understand, both within and outside of ourselves, all the poetry and the terror that surround us. Its elusive nature coincides with a perennial lack of contours and a dissolving of the figure, where background and subject blend into a single, apparent consistency.
Techniques
Oil, acrylic, and mixed media on canvas, canvas board, and paper.
