Nerone

Nerone

NERONE, Sergio Terzi (b.1939), is a painter, sculptor, writer, poet and musician. His life has been challenging to say the least: the oldest of seven children who grew up in poverty with an alcoholic and abusive father, he later also became alcoholic, eventually recovering from the disease. His challenging childhood allowed the true essence of his soul to emerge, and this is visible in all his works. Through his art he was able to metabolise the negativity of his existence.

Autodidact, he started painting at the age of thirty. The creation of each and every one of his artworks has always been, is and always will be a way to release deep-rooted emotions which stir up inside and are best let out through his ability of creation.

His mentor, Antonio Ligabue, was one of the most important Naïve artists of the 20th century. Nerone lived with him in the last period of his life and was his last driver before his death.

Nerone began painting characters from the Po Valley, faces marked by fatigue and the despair of not being able to feed their children. He painted animals with a terrified look, open jaws and sharp claws, wild beasts, that were actually the expression of his own discomfort, of his suffering accumulated in years of frustration.

As time went by, Nerone’s painting evolved. His paintings started to show sunny fields, full of the light that shines on a nature offended by progress.

His first solo exhibition is dated 1973 at the Galleria Zanardelli (Concordia-Modena). He later exhibited in numerous Italian and foreign galleries. Many critics started showing interest in his art and his fame started growing.

America noticed him and in September 26, 1966, he received an award from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, for his distinguished artistic career, by Governor G.E. Pataki. On his return he was welcomed by the tragic and harsh reality: his wife was suffering from Alzheimer. At this point Nerone’s art deals with a metamorphosis, goes towards abstractionism, moving away from the representation of real life. He began to produce informal works of art composed mainly of enamels, with strong and decisive colors, an innovative and well-defined technique. A new, powerful style that immediately captures the viewer’s attention with amazing results mainly because of the ability that the artist has in mastering color.

Rabanser Hans

Hans Rabanser

“Sublimated eroticism”

My name is Hans Rabanser and I was born in 1948 in Ortisei in Val Gardena.

After attending an art school, I learned the profession of sculptor and practiced my profession for some years in recognized workshops. Later the commissioned works of the sculpture no longer corresponded to my “understanding of art” and so I interrupted my work.

However, the art of wood never completely let me go, so in later years I realized my “wooden fantasies” and began carving my torsi’s.

My sculptures emerge spontaneously and are shaped differently from each log, depending on how the tree is grown and shaped. I work the wood very intensively and as long as from the respective hard and coarse wood, fine women’s and Männerertorsi’s arise. My sculptures reflect a certain eroticism and invite the art lovers to contemplate. The Torsi’s should “seduce” the viewer and he should not be afraid to touch the artwork and slide his hands along the forms.

He will not only see, but also feel that the untreated original bark of the log, forms an interesting contrast and so every torso receives an individual charisma.

As wood species I use nut, apple, cherry, ash, maple, chestnut, pine, and olive wood.

Iotti Marino

Marino IOTTI

Marino Iotti – born in Reggio Emilia in 1954; his pictorial journey began at a very young age and met with great interest from authors such as Achille Bonito Oliva, Claudio Cerritelli, Francesca Baboni, Giuseppe Berti, Marin Paden, Massimo and Sandro Mussini Parmiggiani. He learned the technical basics by attending courses given by Prof. Giulio Soriani at the Piccola Academy of Regina Pacis and later with the sculptor Ugo Sterpini.

In 1978 he started his exhibition work in Scandiano (RE) with “Open Studio”, a studio / gallery that was supposed to be a meeting place and a confrontation between the artists. Although Iotti is increasingly fascinated by the anonymous painting, he devoted part of the early eighties to the study of Italian painting of the 20th century. Many portraits are paintings with a strong psychological character, inspired by artists such as Casorati, Funi and Sironi. A study that enables the artist to strengthen his technical skills. But it is with artists like Graham Sutherland and Giacometti who make the gradual transition to a first symbolic language (with themes like ecology and the horrors of war) and then with abstract / informal painting.

The incessant research of the data, which characterizes all the works of Marino Iotti; an ongoing research, never forced and always in progress, a passionate study of the subtle balances that can still convey color and signs.

In the last ten years he started a cooperation with “Saletta Galaverni of Reggio Emilia”, where he presented two solo exhibitions in the years 2004 and 2009 as well as with the “Gallery Nickel” of Seebruck in Germany, with exhibitions in 2002 and from the year 2004 with other group exhibitions.

Other important exhibitions: 2002 “Infinite Voci” in the Rocca di Scandiano; 2005 “The inexhaustible mystery” Church of the Madonna in Cast Sotto; 2007 “Interior Tales” Spazio Tadini of Milan; in 2008 “Nel segno del Natura” headquarters of the Stelvio National Park – Prad am Stilfserjoch (Bz); in 2011 “Echoes of the Visible” Cloisters of San Domenico Reggio Emilia, “The complexity of the fragment” Gallery Meridiana, Pietrasanta – “scartches” Marelia Gallery, Bergamo; in 2012, “90 artists for a flag” Cloister of San Domenico Reggio Emilia, Ducal Palace of Modena, Complesso del Vittoriano, Rome 2013; in 2014 Triennale di Roma, Galleria 13, Reggio Emilia.

Over the years, Marino Iotti has conducted numerous workshops with children from urban nursery school in the province of Reggio Emilia and with people with mental illnesses. Stimulating experiences from both a social and creative point of view.

He lives and works in Scandiano (Reggio Emilia – I)
