Marino IOTTI
Marino Iotti – born in Reggio Emilia in 1954; his pictorial journey began at a very young age and met with great interest from authors such as Achille Bonito Oliva, Claudio Cerritelli, Francesca Baboni, Giuseppe Berti, Marin Paden, Massimo and Sandro Mussini Parmiggiani. He learned the technical basics by attending courses given by Prof. Giulio Soriani at the Piccola Academy of Regina Pacis and later with the sculptor Ugo Sterpini.
In 1978 he started his exhibition work in Scandiano (RE) with “Open Studio”, a studio / gallery that was supposed to be a meeting place and a confrontation between the artists. Although Iotti is increasingly fascinated by the anonymous painting, he devoted part of the early eighties to the study of Italian painting of the 20th century. Many portraits are paintings with a strong psychological character, inspired by artists such as Casorati, Funi and Sironi. A study that enables the artist to strengthen his technical skills. But it is with artists like Graham Sutherland and Giacometti who make the gradual transition to a first symbolic language (with themes like ecology and the horrors of war) and then with abstract / informal painting.
The incessant research of the data, which characterizes all the works of Marino Iotti; an ongoing research, never forced and always in progress, a passionate study of the subtle balances that can still convey color and signs.
In the last ten years he started a cooperation with “Saletta Galaverni of Reggio Emilia”, where he presented two solo exhibitions in the years 2004 and 2009 as well as with the “Gallery Nickel” of Seebruck in Germany, with exhibitions in 2002 and from the year 2004 with other group exhibitions.
