Oberbacher Simon – Woodturner

Simon Oberbacher reveals archaic forms in his archaic wooden sculptures, which he expresses in a contemporary artistic language.
The art historian and art critic Andrea Baffoni writes: “From a single piece of wood, the artist forms bowls, essential shapes associated with the ancient theme of the mother’s womb. He shapes them with a thin shell so that the wood moves as it dries and the end result is a vital asymmetry. This is also expressed in the cracks, which are stapled together with decorative interventions.”
